PowerPoint Shortcuts for Editing and Presenting Slides

PowerPoint shortcuts help with repeated editing and presentation controls. Practice presentation keys before a live session so you know how to exit safely.

What to do

  1. Press Ctrl + M to add a slide. Use Ctrl + D to duplicate a selected slide or object.
  2. Hold Shift while resizing a shape to preserve proportions in many versions. Use the Arrange or Align commands for consistent object positioning.
  3. Start the slide show from the beginning with F5, or from the current slide with Shift + F5.
  4. During a slide show, press Esc to end it. Use the arrow keys or space bar to move between slides.

Checks and limitations

  • Keyboard shortcuts vary on Mac and may be intercepted by laptop function-key settings.
  • Check animations and embedded media in Slide Show mode before presenting.
